Inspiring Young Minds: Preschoolers Greenkeeping & Golf Experience
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming 25 enthusiastic children, aged 4 and 5, from Centro Infantil de Odiáxere for a special “Profession Day” experience.
The young visitors got a hands-on introduction to the world of greenkeeping, discovering how our dedicated team maintains the golf course in top condition. But the day wasn’t just about greenkeeping! Our Golf Pro, João Tomáz, also led a fun golf lesson, introducing the children to the basics of the sport in an engaging and playful way.

Here’s what some of those involved had to say about this special day:
“On behalf of the Centro Infantil, we would like to thank Espiche Golf for the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a Greenkeeper. Our children were thrilled; it was a special morning filled with fun and excitement.
Having the chance to experience different professions firsthand is invaluable, allowing children to understand each role truly.
And most importantly, in any profession, they should always remember: they can be whatever they want to be.”
Margarida Rodrigues, Preschool Teacher at Centro Infantil de Odiáxere

Luísa Pires, Mother of one of the children:
My son came home filled with excitement, eager to share everything they had learned. It’s wonderful to see such experiences sparking their interest in sports and the outdoors at such a young age.

João Tomáz, Golf Pro at Espiche Golf:
As a Golf Professional at Espiche Golf, I was invited to participate in the “Profession Day” and welcome these young visitors. This is a fantastic opportunity to introduce golf to children, helping to demystify the idea that it is an elitist sport and showcasing its true value as a tool for personal and social growth.
Golf is much more than just a game – it teaches discipline, respect, patience, and resilience, all essential qualities for youth development. Additionally, it allows children to connect with nature, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
My goal is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn about and experience golf, demonstrating that this sport can be accessible, inclusive, and extremely beneficial for their personal growth. If we can plant this seed early on, we will not only be shaping future players but also fostering a new generation of young people with strong values, who can carry golf’s lessons with them throughout life.
It was a joy to see the excitement and curiosity of these young learners, and we hope this experience has planted a seed of interest in golf and the world of greenkeeping.
A big thank you to Centro Infantil de Odiáxere for bringing such a wonderful group of future golfers and nature lovers!
